Club Purgatorio

Concept Art Project

Club Purgatorio takes Dante's Mount Purgatory and rebuilds it as a nightclub. Where Dante's pilgrims climbed seven terraces of penance to reach the Garden of Eden at the summit, Club Purgatorio stacks eight floors — one for each of the Seven Deadly Sins, and an eighth reserved for Eden itself. It's a multilevel clubbing experience where the ascent through the building is the whole point: every staircase or elevator ride is a passage between moral states, and the club becomes less a venue than a vertical pilgrimage.

Each floor is its own fully-realized world — its own lighting, sound, crowd behavior, and rules of indulgence — built around a single sin, with none of them sharing an aesthetic. Rather than illustrating the sins with wall text, the design lets guests feel them: a room can seduce, gorge, enrage, or lull its visitors before they ever think about the concept behind it. That variety is deliberate — Club Purgatorio isn't one mood repeated eight times, it's eight distinct atmospheres held together by a single architectural and narrative spine. Reaching Eden only after passing through every sin turns the finale into a question rather than a reward: is paradise something you arrive at, or something you have to earn by moving through everything you're not supposed to want?

As a conceptual project, Club Purgatorio sits at the intersection of interior design, worldbuilding, and allegory — using nightlife's built-in appetite for excess, spectacle, and sensory overload as the vehicle for a very old story about temptation and redemption.
